Dodgeball: A truely Horrible Movie By J. Morelli  Knock Knock.
Who's There? Not funny. Not funny who? Oh I’m Sorry, Did I say not funny? I meant to say Ben Stiller. Yes ladies and gentleman, its been three months since ben stiller graced the screen with his over the top trying to hard performances. He now gives us the gift of Dodgeball. Woopde Doo. The only problem is, this gift costs 8.75 and is 86 minutes of shit tasting stupidity. In this movie, Ben Stiller plays a dude who is a dick (one of his several (two) Characters in his Actors Treasure Chest of Skill) and Vince Vaughn plays a guy who is in need of money. So instead of making his money like a champ (sucking dick or Lumberjacking) he decides to play Dodgeball. Ben Stiller joins in and we have ourselves a nice soft comedy. I can see how in theory this could have been a funny movie. Vince Vaughn is a great actor, but he needs to steer clear of Stiller and his comedies and stick with Jon Favreau or someone else with talent because he is going the way of Owen Wilson into the great unknown of Unfunnyland. Vaughn’s role in the film was written to be that of the ‘Bill Murray’ role in 80’s comedies, the slovenly smart assed loser type who gets the girl and cuts corners. Well, it didn’t come across so well. Vince Vaughn looks like he was roused from a nap before they shot his scenes. His performance wasn’t bad, but you can tell he didn’t really care or try too hard. Now with Ben Stiller, I don’t know how to start, well…His character in theory could be really funny…that is…if played by someone else. He delivers so over the top that it kills and subtext to the performance at all. Its so cartoony and stupid that you lose all else to the role. If it was being played by an actor who had any sense, you realize that if you add a little bit of truth or reality to what you are playing it makes it all the more effective. The way stiller plays it just kills it for me. When someone is trying really really hard to be funny or for a laugh, my natural reaction is to not laugh…to deny them. I dunno. That’s just me I guess. My advice to Ben, take a three…mon-…no…year break…just stop….go home. Make some children soup. Read some books. And most importantly Think. Because your movies fucking suck hardcore as of late. Dodgeball is not only unfunny, but it is one of the few films I will describe as a Stomach Ache of Ginormous proportions. Instead of seeing this shit. Go out…pick some flowers, write or read a Book, or Go see a good film such as….anything but this piece of shit.   1/2 star out of 5 Stars 2004 |
