How to Download Movies
A Quick Guide to Downloading Movies. Some movies have a YouTube Flash Video right at the top, which is the easiest way to see a movie. Just click play. To Download a movie, click on the quality which you want to view, and it should start downloading. Basically, not every movie adheres to this guide, as the options will be best suited to legnth and quality of the movie. If a link is in gray that means it is not available in that particular format/quality you're looking for. Low Quality or 56k movies
are usually 178x120 between 1 to 2 megabytes and have, as the name would imply, shitty quality. But, for newer movies, Low Quality is actually pretty decent and definately watchable. Medium or Cable quality movies are 320x240 internet style downloads between
5 to 25 megabytes depending on the legnth of the movie. High Quality movies are the highest quality available on the site at 640 x 480 and can range from anywhere from 15 to 80 megabytes depending on legnth.
Now here's a format guide.
Windows Media Player, our preferred movie format. This one is only where you will be able to find High Quality movies. These by far have the best ratio between file size and movie quality.
Real Player, I hate this one. Streaming never works well on this, so you should just download the movie to your hard drive before watching anything. The quality or file size is no better than Windows Media
but I just hate this on principle. Back in 2002 when the site opened this was number 2, now I hope it goes away.
Quicktime, those fucking mac users would always complain "I'm on a mac, I can't watch any of the movies, I only have Quicktime." Well, you can get both Windows Media and Real Player on macs, but by now Quicktime has grown alot better
than Real player. So, we now have quicktime compatability with a bunch of movies, usually at the same quality as a Medium Windows Media movie. But, the file size is pretty big. So, go get Windows Media and watch something that's twice as big with the same file size.
iPod formats, or mp4s, will most likely not play on your computer in anything other than quicktime, and are meant to go onto your iPod and be watched on the go. If you download these files and put them into iTunes they should be ready to go right onto your ipod. With all of the space on these things yet Apple trying to ram content you gotta' pay for down your throat, I figured it'd be nice to have some free stuff.
The file size on these jams are pretty high compared to the quality of the things, and on the ipod itself some do suffer from minor slowdowns or frames dropping, but they are definately watchable.
