The Ladykillers
By M. Morelli

Good movie. Funny moments. Laughs will be had. Coen Bros. do it again.

For me, The Ladykillers was a very good movie, one of the best of the year. The Coen Bros. did a good job in maintaining a movie that could be marketed and enjoyed by the populus but still be enjoyed by the coen bros. enthusiaist. It has its faults, the plot lacked charachter motivation and Tom Hanks' charachter was underdeveloped. Besides them, it had its funny moments that really hit their targets (such as the dog in the gas mask). Of all the crazy charachters, Tom Hanks was the least interesting, his speeches were long and sometimes boring. The best, far and above the rest, was the General, who could get laughs with just a look. J.K. Simmons was also really funny, suprisingly one of the highlights of the movie. Marlon Wayans was good, but don't expect much more than what was revealed in the trailer. Overall, the group worked, but some things that were left unsaid I was interested to know; like how they got together, why Tom Hanks was the way he was, and why did they really want the money.

Overall, it was a good good movie, but not the best Coen. bros movie. For the die-hard Coen fan, you might feel a bit disappointed, but I really doubt it. This is an altogether decent movie, up until the end. I thought Tom Hanks' fate was undeserving and kinda' easy. But, he was made up the old lady, who played off the actions in the basement well. This movie had a great a concept, and turned out very good in the end, but I felt like it was missing just a few minor details that prevented it from being a Coen. Bros. classic. Don't let that hold you back, this is a very funny movie that you will laugh at (unless you're a native american). I highly suggest you go see it, its good, entertaining and doesn't feature any sudden titty flashes like the Super Bowl. That would have been nice though.
