Serenity
By Eugene F. Kranz

I didn’t see this movie. I don’t want to see this movie. I am going to review it anyway. Why would anyone want to make something like this? It’s just ridiculous nonsense. You can not do the things they claim to do while in space. I hate movies that are written completely without taking into account the physics of space travel.

I was the flight director for the Apollo missions 7 through 17. Ed Harris played me in a movie. I know what I’m talking about.

And I’ll tell you what, this stuff just bugs me. These formulaic movies probably written by a computer. I hate it, people told me coming in, “No, it’s actually good and it’s funny too” – I don’t care what you have to say, it’s bad and when I make my decision, I make my decision.

Has a computer ever flown an F-86 Sabre 685 mph at 45,000 feet over Korea? No. Which is why computers can’t write good movies, and I don’t know why they let them do this. They really ought to bring back humans in writing movies. A lot of people want to do the same thing they’ve done to movies to space, eliminate human space travel with robots and computers. Where’s the heart in that?

Computers can beat Gary Kasporov at chess. They can fly to mars and shovel sand. They can make our cars faster and cheaper. But, they can’t write a movie. That should be done by humans, who have hearts. Unless they invent some computer robot with an actual heart, which has a blood like support system, then, maybe then, they can let robots and computers write movies.

Serenity is proof of what I have always said about science fiction movies, spend more time actually exploring the galaxy and less time farting around pretending to.
